Summer Quartet II: The Drive

What kinds of things have you brought home this summer?

With this “Summer Quartet” blog series, I’ve been challenging myself to bring home some haiku from my summer outings and add prose to develop them into the haibun (prose + haiku) form. Poetry amateur I may be, but I’m enjoying this summer hobby.

The Drive

It made sense to take advantage of the holiday and free(ish) time to hop into my sedan and go … along with every other person having that same idea. At first, we sat idle as often as we moved. Then I picked up speed and remembered that I forgot to slather sunscreen on my left arm. I glanced in the rearview mirror but then decided to enjoy the drive.

Asphalt, traffic – I
roll down the windows and sing
for my tailgater.
